Garden offices for lawn commuters

Homes & Housing Published on 14 November 2006 in Homes & Housing

For everyone who'd like to escape office politics and the daily commute, iscape manufactures and sells purpose-built garden offices. The British company has created two modular buildings, or 'iscapes': Miana and Winola. Both are multi-use outdoor living spaces, but the Miana was specifically designed to be used as an office.

Every garden office (from GBP 4,995 including installation and delivery) comes complete with integral electrics and includes sockets and lighting. Constructed from panels, the Miana can be ordered in a range of sizes, with door and window positions meeting a customer's specific requirements. Customers can choose from 60 colours for timber and plastic coated steel finishes, and iscapes are insulated to high standards for all-year round comfort. The modular designs are pre-fabricated and can usually be installed on site in just one day. The buildings are designed to fall within UK permitted development rights, so in most cases buyers don't need planning permission.

Design conscious lawn commuters might be more interested in the company's bespoke service, which creates garden offices to a customer's exact wishes, with all stages of the project undertaken and co-ordinated in-house.

Comments on this idea:

There is indeed a big business surrounding garden offices/'sheds' in the UK - I produce a bimonthly pdf lifestyle magazine for shedworkers (and other homeworkers) and also you might be interested in my blog which covers the same subject at http://shedworking.blogspot.com

The website for this is too slow I have 8 meg broadband and got bored of waiting!

I am on a 512K broadband and the website loaded really fast. I have to say the video is amazing, never seen anything like this on a website before. what a great brand!

Take a look at www.roomsoutdoor.co.uk as well. They have some great contemporary buildings and do everything form small studio offices to bespoke design. If you want something a million miles away from the garden shed look at their Cuberno and Moderno ranges. We are just about to order from the Rooms Outdoor guys so that we can work from home and have been really impressed with their service so far.

A lot of expensive garden offices are just imported sheds with a small amount of insulation. What about the environment?
I found www.iobuild.co.uk when I was searching for a company that could supply a proper building. They have considered the environment when designing their buildings and use materials readily available in the UK. They also use an architect to design their buildings and use much more insulation than anyone else.

Have a look at www.garenberg-garden-offices.com they have an enviromentally friendly green roof and offer lots of of insulation. My friend recently had one installed in manchester and it increased the value of his house by £3.5K more than the office cost.

Actually an iscape roof is faced with environmentally friendly EVA single ply membrane, delivering superior performance with regard to strength, dimensional stability, long term flexibility, weathering, chemical resistance, and noise dampening. It also has a warranty of 40 yrs

Hello, i love www.springwise.com! Let me in, please :)

These are ok but look nothing like the offices on their website? The contempory buildings mentioned above at http://garenberg-garden-offices.com are nice.

Hi, Ive just been to the Chester Race course home and garden show 1st June 2007 and seen a Garenberg there and placed an order.. they really are fab, Highly secure/well built and Licenced/5 yr insured through the Consumer protection association! Great spec on the Advantage range and I'm on their lease purchase agreement and saving money too, Check them out if you're using this for an office!

Sorry, but we viewed eight offices and the only one that we considered would last more than a few years was insideOut garden offices http://www.iobuild.co.uk. We know have an ensuite version at the bottom of our garden.

I purchased the ultimate Garden office,The Garden Escape, the best in terms of design, green credentials and standards and service is second to none.

Another alternative would be to convert a concrete panelled building into an office at a fraction of the cost of a glamourous timber building.www.garagequotes.com has some examples

We recently had a garden office from Homestead in Wallingford (http://www.homesteadtimberbuildings.co.uk) and I have to say that the service from start to finish was completely excellent - they even applied for planning permission for us, and the office is just perfect. Just had to tell you !
