A water-resistant and sustainable slip-on shoe

Humbs One distinguishes itself by providing a modern and innovative design, with three meals donated for every pair sold as an additional social component

Spotted: Portuguese footwear company Humbs One has launched a water-resistant, anti-odour urban slip-on shoe made entirely from vegan and recycled materials.

For every pair sold, two meals are donated to the institution Souma, which helps people access food and other support, around the world. An additional meal is also given to Animalife, which supports abandoned animals.

The urban slip-on is made out of patented materials such as onSteam® BioEco (Group Morón) for the inner lining. This is a skin-like microfibre, that is biodegradable, recycled from corn, sweat-resistant, anti-odour, temperature-regulating and padded for additional comfort. The brand also uses OnMicro® on the outer lining, which feels like leather, is highly resistant, fully waterproof and breathable. Both these materials adjust to the most international standards and are 100 per cent vegan.

With the goal of helping people living on the streets, the brand decided to donate a meal for every purchase. Initially, the name was a variation of the term “homeless” — it started with “Hobes”, developed into  “Hobbes” and then ended up in a simple yet unique word originated from the term “humble”, Humbs.

Inspired by developers Hugo Stevens and Miguel Tavares, who saw a gap in the market for eco-friendly footwear, the company’s slogan is “Feel the Need”. “Casually, at the rhythm of beer, a friend complimented the other friends’ shoes. This was the starting point for a discussion of ideas about design and functionality. The new footwear brand was born with three main pillars in mind: design, functionality and sustainability,”  Stevens and Tavares told Springwise.

Humbs One launched on Indiegogo’s crowdfunding platform earlier this month.
