The Coat Check Chair uses minimalist design and is manufactured using sustainable methods
Spotted: US-based designer Joey Zeledón has created a chair to solve your overcrowded closet problem. The Coat Check Chair corrals the unwieldy hangers in your closet and turns them into a practical seat.
The design reassembles the elements of a closet — rod and hangers — into a minimalist design chair strong enough to sit or stand on. It also, according to Zeledón, offers “gentle encouragement to stay neat.”
“The hangers’ flexible plastic makes the chair surprisingly comfortable, while its impermanent construction lets users customise in terms of hanger colour and pattern,” Zeledón told core77.com.
He first had the idea for the chair as a design student at Rochester Institute of Technology. The concept won recognition and he went on to a successful career as a designer with Steelcase and other clients. He has since launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund production, which is running until 17 July.
