An online marketplace for sustainable packaging

Every product is scored across a standard set of environmental sustainability criteria

Spotted: Currently, only around 14 per cent of all plastic packaging worldwide is recycled, and with online shopping only becoming more popular after the pandemic, the amount of packaging needed globally will only rise too. New platform Impacked acts as a marketplace for commercial packaging options made from renewable and/or recycled materials. Its goal is to bring an industry online that currently operates mostly offline via trade shows and word-of-mouth. By creating an online marketplace, brands can see at a glance how different sustainable packaging options compare to one another, across a range of criteria.

More than 10,000 wholesale packaging options are listed on the platform, and at the moment are predominantly for beauty, personal care, and pet product use.

Vendors can search, filter, and compare packaging made from glass, aluminium, plastic, and a variety of new materials focused on sustainability. Free to use for buyers, only manufacturers pay a fee for a listing in the marketplace. The platform specifically reduces the need for distributors and managers, instead connecting buyers directly with sellers and allowing the two parties to negotiate costs and payment plans as simply as possible.

Bespoke packaging options are also available upon request, with Impacked providing a list of vetted suppliers for custom orders. The company recently closed a $2.5 million (approximately €2.4 million) round of seed funding for a total of $3.3 million (approximately €3.2 million) raised.

From groceries delivered in refillable, reusable paper containers to a platform that consolidates online sales from multiple vendors into a single delivery, Springwise has spotted many innovations in packaging seeking to reduce the amount of waste produced by consumers’ online shopping habits.
