No more plastic: a new, paper-based pallet wrap

The solution is recyclable, FSC-certified, and compatible with automated pallet-wrapping machines

Spotted: As the world faces a plastic crisis, with plastic production expected to double by 2050, it is essential to find sustainable alternatives to single or short-use plastics – one of those being pallet wrap. Most pallet wrap is composed of polyethylene, an unsustainable plastic that is difficult to recycle and incurs high levels of fossil fuel related pollution during production.

In response, Seaman Paper, a global manufacturer of paper and packaging solutions has launched SeaStretch, a lightweight crepe paper that is sustainably sourced, durable, resistant to tearing, and able to be used for hand, semi-automated, and automated wrapping mechanisms. The sticky inner layer clings to items as they’re wrapped, ensuring that products are well-protected as they’re shipped and transported.

“SeaStretch is a game-changer for the packaging industry, as it offers a viable and cost-effective way to reduce plastic waste while ensuring product safety and security,” said Ken Winterhalter, CEO of Seaman Paper. The paper can also be used as a void-fill solution for packaging after its initial use.

Springwise has spotted other packaging solutions that replace existing plastic products, including Styrofoam made from grain husks and bubble wrap made from recycled paper.
