Italian architects plan sustainable neighbourhood in Tirana

Tirana Riverside's housing will feature a co-working space and communal gardens for residents to grow food

Spotted: The Italian firm Stefano Boeri Architetti has designed an entire greenery-filled neighbourhood in Albania, offering reduced pollution and a healthier environment to tackle post-COVID needs. 

The Tirana Riverside project will be constructed along a 29-hectare (71-acre) riverfront site, where there will be housing, retail space, commercial space, office space, a school and university. The plans include multiple towers and high-rise buildings, housing up to 12,000 people. 

The entire development will be filled with greenery, including vertical surfaces and roofs with communal gardens for residents to grow food. Solar power is also planned. In addition, the area has been designed to foster co-working, with the delivery of goods, sports and leisure facilities, hanging gardens and pedestrian bridges.

Tirana Riverside is scheduled to begin construction soon, with the first batch of homes expected to be completed within 12 months.
