Solar-powered water generator extracts and purifies water from air

The unit produces between 11 and 15 litres of water a day, covering the drinking water needs of six to eight adults

Spotted: Taiwanese startup Space Apes has designed a solar-powered, reusable and sustainable water generator that extracts, purifies and condenses water from the air to make it ready to drink.

The device, dubbed the AQR (Aquarius), is light and easily transported, with the additional advantage of not needing to be connected to a power supply if placed outside in the sun. 

It works by storing air in its upper compartment during the night and condensing the water vapour during the day when the sunlight heats the unit. The water is then passed through a filter and accumulated in a tank below where it can be collected for drinking.

Aquarius was designed to be used in remote areas that lack access to water supply pipelines, and people living in areas with low rainfall such as semi-desert and desert communities. The unit can produce between 11 and 15 litres of water a day, covering the drinking water needs of six to eight adults.
