The world’s first Bluetooth item finder made from recycled fishing nets

The outer shell of Chipolo One Ocean Edition is made from plastic waste collected from the oceans, which would otherwise pose a threat to marine life and their habitats

Spotted: Slovene startup Chipolo, a Bluetooth-based item finder company, has introduced a new version of its device made of ocean plastic.

The outer shell of Chipolo One’s “Ocean Edition” is made from the plastic waste collected from oceans that would otherwise accumulate, posing a threat to marine life and their habitats.

To gather materials, Chipolo worked with Oceanworks.co, the global marketplace for recycled ocean plastic materials and products, whose mission is to accelerate the market for recycled plastic as so, to clean-up the ocean.

The recycled ocean plastic that is used in the Chipolo Ocean Edition comes from recycled fishing nets, trawls and ropes collected in shallow ocean areas. The plastic waste is then turned into pellets to make the polypropylene plastic encasing for the device.

The Chipolo One is a lightweight, water-resistant device that attaches to a variety of objects. When paired with the Chipolo app, directions are given to find items where the user last left them. The device notifies users, with a loud 120 dB ring, where objects are up to a distance of 200 ft. The device supports Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Siri, to use voice commands to find objects.

Chipolo is also donating the equivalent of €0.57 from each Chipolo Ocean Edition sold to the non-profit organisation Oceanic Global, in support of their ocean clean-up efforts.
