A headphone designed for younger gamers

A new headphone is designed to appeal to a younger and more diverse demographic

Spotted: Gamers get ready. Gaming innovator Logitech G has released an ultra-lightweight wireless headset designed with the next-generation gamer in mind. The headphones are designed to be both sustainable and inclusive, with a range of features that are aimed squarely at younger gamers, and at people who may not be “typical” gamers.

The headphones weigh in at just 165 grams (5.8 ounces) and have a design that is optimised for a small to medium head size — think children and young teens. For those with sensitive ears, there is an optional volume limiter that caps the sound level at 85 decibels. The headset is certified carbon neutral, which means the company has used certified carbon offsets to reduce the carbon impact of the product to zero. The plastic parts include a minimum of 22 per cent post-consumer recycled content, and the paper packaging comes from FSC-certified forests.

On top of its sustainable credentials, the G435 uses beamforming microphones to reduce background noise while amplifying the user’s voice, eliminating the need for a boom mic. It also includes inclusive features, like left and right braille indicators on the headset to help those with visual impairments know which side is which.

Ujesh Desai, general manager of Logitech G, explained the thinking behind the new headphones, saying, “Consumers, particularly young gamers, care deeply about the planet, and the effects of climate change as well as the price, functionality and feature set of their products. We’ve engineered the G435 with intention to build our lightest, most affordable, sustainable gaming headset for these users …”

Brands are beginning to realise that sustainability is an important component in every product, especially those aimed at a younger market. At Springwise, we see this almost every day in innovations from fossil fuel-free steel to packaging made from seaweed.
