Architect Robert Konieczny designed the single-family home for privacy and a technology-enabled connection to nature
Spotted: In Poland, a KWK Promes-designed quadrant house is connecting its inhabitants with the sun via a rotating terrace. The home comprises two main structures set perpendicular to each other. This sun-worshipping terrace swings between the two parts of the home.
Set on a circular rail, and connected to the main structure via hinges, the terrace provides an indoor-outdoor combination of rooms, alternately enlarging or shrinking the space of the buildings. Glass windows and doors line the terrace and the main portion of the home, opening and closing as desired.
The movement and speed of the terrace depends entirely on the sun and are different each day. Due to the terrace’s constant movement throughout the day, the lawn is never covered for an extensive period of time. If the terrace approaches an impediment, sensors ensure that it automatically stops moving.
