British designers launch high-tech, sustainable face mask

The new mask design features a state of the art filtration system and is fully made in England
Spotted: The London-based design and tech firm Pentatonic and the entrepreneur Natalia Vodianova have developed the Masuku One, a new sustainable face mask concept.
At the end of its life, each and everyone of the material used will either be degradable or recyclable, and “every manufacturing aspect is calibrated to achieve maximum comfort and carefully considered with sustainability in mind”, says the firm.
The mask’s “spacer mesh” cover is made entirely from recycled performance polymer and is optimised to allow airflow. The ear-loops are made from pre-loved components and present two pairs of 360-degree joints that aim to create personalised fits.
“The air we breathe affects every organ and cell in our bodies. I sincerely hope, in the future, masks will not be needed. Until then, we want Masuku to be the most technological, sustainable option to breathe clean air, while respecting it”, Vodianova told Wallpaper.
The entirety of product is made in England, with the nano-fibre filtration mesh coming from Yorkshire. There are further nearby locations dedicated to the assembly and production of Masuku products.
