The sustainable stadium will house the world’s first carbon-neutral football team, the UK’s Forest Green Rovers Football Club
Spotted: The UK’s Forest Green Rovers Football Club is the world’s first vegan and carbon-neutral football club. It is now planning to build a new, all-wood stadium that will form the centrepiece of Stroud’s forthcoming Eco Park.
Every aspect of the club runs on 100 per cent sustainable energy, provided by the green energy company Ecotricity, and the stadium’s own solar panels. Ecotricity was founded by Dale Vince, the team’s owner.
The football pitch is organic and is cut by a solar-powered mow-bot that texts updates to the club’s groundskeeper. Collected rainwater irrigates the pitch, and all food served by the Club is vegan, for players, staff and fans.
In 2018, the United Nations certified the club as carbon-neutral, the world’s first sports team to achieve the accolade. And this year, Vince launched Little Green Devils catering, which take the Rovers’ award-winning vegan menus to a wider audience.
