The Pino is a modern take on the old-fashioned hand-crank mixer.
Spotted: German design student Manuel Immler has created an electricity-free kitchen appliance. The device uses a modern gear system and a hand-crank for eco-friendly meal preparation.
The device, known as the Pino, was designed to reduce the environmental cost of cooking, Immler said. The Pino enables electricity-free whisking, beating, mixing and grinding. The design is based on an old-fashioned hand-crank.
The Pino includes three different gears which allow the device to turn at 50 to 1000 revolutions per minute. The gears can be changed using a wooden dial on the top of the device.
The prototype of the Pino was made at campus workshops at the University of Bolzano, Italy. Immler said he was inspired by the challenge of reducing the impact of consumer goods. The entire appliance is made using locally sourced wood and other material.
