A UAE-based fashion company is focusing on charitable giving, transparency, and recycled materials
Spotted: Although the fashion industry has been struggling in some areas since the pandemic and economic downturn, the athleisure market continues to grow as consumers continue to spend more time at home. In fact, the market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.9 per cent from 2022 to 2030. With more business meetings taking place in front of a computer at home, loungewear has become a part of professional wardrobes. Yet much athleisure has the same problem with unsustainability as other types of fast fashion. Enter Dubai-based brand The Giving Movement.
The Giving Movement was founded in 2020 and donates $4 (around €3.84) to charity for each item sold. On top of this, it uses locally sourced sustainable fabrics, such as organic cotton, recycled nylon, and semi-synthetic Tencel fabric. All garments are manufactured locally in the UAE.
On top of its charitable and sustainable goals, The Giving Movement also prioritises transparency, providing information on each of the partner charities, suppliers, and factories in its supply chain.
In the two years since its founding, The Giving Movement has seen tremendous growth. The company recently raised $15 million (approximately €14.38 million) in a Series A funding round led by Knuru Capital.
The fashion industry has been criticised for poor sustainability and unfair labour practices. Luckily, there are several innovations that aim to help. Springwise has spotted plant-based, biodegradable sneakers, and children’s clothing made from recycled materials that grow with the wearer.
