This novel system could make EV charging quicker and more convenient
Spotted: The EV market is booming, with nearly one in five cars sold in 2023 being electric. To keep this momentum going, urban e-mobility is rapidly advancing, and this is where Austria-based Easelink makes a difference.
Easelink’s Matrix Charging system automatically charges cars parked over a special pad – even during brief stops – to simplify the charging experience for e-car users.
Instead of using a cable to plug an electric car into a charging station, vehicles equipped with an integrated Matrix Charging Connector on their undercarriage can connect to a Matrix Charging Pad in a parking space with the push of a button. This allows the cars to charge automatically without needing to leave the vehicle or visit a dedicated charging station, making the process extremely convenient.
The charging pads are designed for easy installation in existing parking spaces or retrofitting in select garages. Made from high-strength plastic and inset with stainless steel pins, they can withstand the wear and tear caused by everything from pedestrians to heavy-duty trucks. These durable materials also make the pads resistant to the chemical and environmental exposures of public streets.
Beyond their robustness, the pads are highly efficient and cost-effective, achieving 99 per cent efficiency in conductive energy transfer and boasting significantly lower manufacturing costs compared to inductive charging systems.
The company is currently conducting pilots to prove the concept, including the largest automated eTaxi project in operation.
