A platform lets consumers shop with purpose

Customers direct a percentage of their purchase to an impact project of their choice

Spotted: Recent research from PwC has found that consumers are willing to spend around 9.7 per cent more on sustainable goods, even in the face of rising inflation and living costs. Assisting consumers in achieving their desire to shop responsibly and sustainably is Danish retail technology company Contribe.

Contribe provides a digital plugin that allows brands to offer their customers concrete social and environmental pledges with every purchase. Called the Impact Plugin, the programme lists the social, environmental, or human rights projects that the brand has chosen to support.

Shoppers choose which project or projects to direct a percentage of their purchase towards, and Contribe’s tracking platform provides brands with an accessible, visual means of sharing progress towards each goal. All the projects are vetted and verified and cover a broad range of areas, including education, mental health, healthcare, carbon capture, ocean plastic, animal welfare, hunger prevention, clean drinking water, gender equality, and more.

Contribe integrates with more than 100 e-commerce platforms, including Shopify and Klaviyo, and the company provides brands with a full set-up and onboarding service to make adoption as easy as possible. According to the company, brands using the plugin achieve, on average, an 11 per cent higher order size and a 39 per cent greater customer retention rate.
