Personal water filter recharges with carbon-filled bags

Botl Filter is a small, reusable personal water filtration system with no disposable plastic parts requiring replacement.

There are numerous personal water filtration systems on the market today, but most involve cartridges or other plastic parts that must be disposed of when the filter gets replaced. Not so with the Botl Filter, a small device that features a reusable case with a replaceable and compostable carbon-filled bag. At the heart of the Botl Filter is its replaceable and fully biodegradable bag of coconut shell activated carbon. Much like a tea bag, that component gets inserted inside a reusable, stainless steel case. Then, users need only drop the combined Botl Filter device into any bottle of drinking water and shake for fresher taste; no presoaking is required. The device removes organic contaminants and meets NSF Standard 42 for chlorine, taste and odor reduction, its Canadian maker says, but it’s not intended to purify water that’s unsafe. Each bag lasts long enough for between one and three days’ worth of drinking; after that time, users can compost the old one and insert a fresh bag. The Botl Filter system is priced at CAD 12.99; a box of 16 replacement bags is CAD 9.99. As the ongoing war is waged against disposable plastic bottles, there really is no such thing as too much sustainable choice.
