A software platform aimed at reducing the environmental impact of large buildings has raised new funding to expand its offer
Spotted: The real estate sector is responsible for more than 20 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions, along with other environmental impacts, such as waste production, pollution, and water consumption. However, you can’t reduce what you can’t measure. This is the idea behind French start-up Deepki, which offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that aims to help the real estate industry manage these impacts, and deliver greater sustainability and carbon savings.
Companies using Deepki’s platform can track and analyse a variety of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data, giving real estate managers a comprehensive overview of carbon emissions across their portfolio. Deepki allows users to collect and aggregate data around the use of energy, water, and waste. The company automates this process by using APIs, server data, and web scraping.
Once users have the data, the platform provides analysis that lets them see how different buildings perform over time. This makes it easier to see where improvements need to be made, and which areas need prioritising. The data can also be extracted and used for certifications, such as Energy Performance Certificates. Deepki’s platform is aimed at large corporate clients with multiple commercial properties. Comparing data from different buildings allows them to better implement energy savings plans where they can do the most good.
According to Deepki co-founder and CEO Vincent Bryant, Deepki can play an important role in the drive to net-zero. “The global real estate sector needs to act now if it is to halve its emissions by 2030 and meet the net zero target by 2050. This represents a huge market opportunity for Deepki.”
Deepki is not the only company leveraging SaaS technology to offer ESG data. In fact, this is a rapidly growing area. We earlier looked at a platform that helps businesses visualise ESG data, and a responsive smart building management system that reduces emissions.
