Self-sufficient bio cabins proposed for the post-climate change age

Combining existing technologies and bio construction solutions, W-LAB’s futuristic bio cabins are made for a desert climate

Spotted: Spanish W-LAB has designed a new low-environmental impact habitat, to evaluate how people could survive in a possible post-climate change age scenario.

Each cabin is fully autonomous, making the need for general power grids and maintenance redundant. The cabins also present an aerodynamic shape that reduces wind friction and improves stability, whilst also minimising sounds, vibrations and site erosion. As for tech, all internet broadband connections can be satellite-provided and goods would be delivered by drones.

Designed for maximum flexibility of use, residents will be able to work and exercise from home and also grow food, with the interior of the bio cabin providing space for small indoor greenhouses.

Water will be obtained by fog catchers capturing coastal humidity or modular water desalination plants. Water recycling ensures water can be reused for growing vegetation and energy production will be harnessed from the abundant desert sun and winds.

Organic construction materials for the bio cabins can be sourced from plants grown in the desert locations, such as agave for wood.
