Cascades have created a reusable cardboard cooler that is fully recyclable and keeps contents just as cold as its styrofoam counterpart.
We’ve already seen a recyclable picnic box with compostable dishes, but recently we came across another innovation designed to make outdoor fun more sustainable. Aiming to replace the ubiquitous but environmentally hostile styrofoam cooler, Canadian Cascades now offers a reusable cardboard alternative that is fully recyclable and keeps contents just as cold as its styrofoam counterpart. Composed of 70 percent recycled cardboard, the Cascades ThermaFresh recycled cardboard picnic cooler is lined with a waterproof coating that makes it both weatherproof and reusable. Cooling performance, meanwhile, is on par with what styrofoam coolers offer. At an ambient temperature of 25° C with two bags of ice, for example, the Cascades ThermaFresh cooler keeps contents at 5° C for 36 hours, the company says. Perhaps best of all, however, is that the unit can be fully recycled at the end of its useful life. Measuring 51 by 33.5 by 29 cm, the ThermaFresh cooler is now priced at CAD 14.99. The video below demonstrates the item in more detail: It seems a safe bet that outdoor enthusiasts around the globe would be glad for a new eco-minded option in this area. Currently, however, Quebec-based Cascades ships only within Canada. One to help bring to other parts of the world? Spotted by: Florent Lesauvage
