Connected cars pay for parking spaces via fingerprint

SEAT, Samsung and SAP announce a fingerprint system for reserving and paying for parking digitally, as well as virtual keys for connected cars.

We recently saw an app that uses GPS to work out how much street parking costs, then lets drivers pay digitally. As cars become more connected in an age of automation, SEAT, Samsung, and SAP have partnered and made plans to deliver fingerprinted, digital parking payment solutions.

Using Samsung Pay and the SEAT Connect app, users will be able to reserve parking spaces in any location, and be guided to their destination. Upon arrival, any barriers will lift automatically, and payment will be deducted through the user’s digital wallet when they exit.

Additionally, the collaboration will see a digital key-sharing service, where car owners can start their cars using their smartphones or smart watches, and authorize access for others for limited time periods.

The announcements were made at the recent Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. What other automobile services could be paid for using connected, digital wallets?
