The one-month hackathon is testing the government’s online public service systems
Spotted: In partnership with hacker-powered security company HackerOne, Singapore’s Government Technology (GovTech) and Cyber Security (CSA) agencies are running a one-month bug bounty programme.
From July to August 2019, some of the world’s best hackers will be stress-testing the technology behind the government’s online public services. Bug bounty projects are industry-best practices that focus on finding system weaknesses before they are exploited for nefarious purposes.
Approximately 300 hackers (a mix of international and local talent) will compete to find the most, and most severe, potential security breaches. The work focuses on nine of the government’s most-used digital services and technology systems. HackerOne’s network of hackers works with businesses around the world on improving the safety of systems, applications and services.
The GovTech bug bounty programme pays between € 220 and € 9,000 per reported vulnerability, depending on severity. A leaderboard and results from the hackathon will be made public in September 2019.
