Yummy! acts as a mediator between food vendors and customers in the war-torn country
Spotted: The Yummy! app enables cooks in cities across Libya to deliver their home-cooked food to customers. Fatema Nasser, 21, and Azeeza Adam, 32, developed the app to increase employment opportunities for Libyan women. It also has enhanced security features.
The cooks can apply to be a vendor on the app and then send samples to Yummy!, which is headquartered in the southern city of Sebha. The food is then taste-tested and photographed professionally. Once approved, the vendors will be able to start using the app. Their food will be sent to the customers by drivers hired by Yummy!, which is key, as most food vendors have limited access to their clients otherwise.
Yummy! is tackling various security issues by allowing the vendors to operate anonymously within the app. The company has also established meeting points within the cities it operates in — which include Sebha, Benghazi and Tripoli — to help keep drivers safe.
