London’s first refugee-led pop-up

Six refugee-founded businesses are collaborating with Turnbull & Asser on the shop and will raise money for the Crisis charity

Spotted: Six British brands and crafts businesses are partnering with the traditional shirtmaker, Turnbull & Asser, to open a refugee-led gift shop aiming to raise charitable funds in time for Christmas. 

Based in the Brewery’s Dray Walk on London’s Davies Street, the Turnbull & Friends Christmas Gift Shop will provide “unique experiences, live making, offers and events in the run up to Christmas”. The collaborating brands are all emerging, refugee-founded businesses, which Turnbull & Asser state: “share the same values, craftsmanship and pride in British manufacturing”. These include the coffee company Climpson & Sons, London’s Undercover umbrellas, Pankhurst barbers, textile artist Jo Elbourne, jeweller Alice Made This, and luxury leather goods manufacturer, Ettinger. 

Ten per cent of profits made from the store will be donated to Crisis, the leading homeless aid charity in the UK. Founded in 1967, the charity offers one-to-one support, advice and courses for homeless people across England, Scotland and Wales. Each collaborating brand has also donated products towards a luxury gift box, which will be raffled off to customers, to raise further funds, when the pop-up closes.
