Despite good intentions, small businesses are often put off from buying eco-friendly supplies because of the higher cost. Now, the Squirrelz is a startup that gets around this by offering cut price goods to creatives, which would otherwise end up in landfills.

Based in Shanghai, the Squirrelz is an eco wholesaler that collects overstock from factories. The materials are listed on its website at reduced prices, and crafters, designers and artists can purchase the goods in flexible quantities. The Squirrelz also sells upcycled products made by a community of designers.

Could a similar scheme work for other types of manufacturers?
