From Japan, retailer's alarm clock app wakes users with music tailored to the weather
Work & Lifestyle
Uniqlo Wake Up is a social alarm app from Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo that incorporates the current weather, time and day of the week into its wake-up music.
There’s been a flurry of alarm-clock innovations on our virtual pages over the past few months, including an app from German airline Lufthansa and another that factors snowy weather into wake-up times. Now joining the list is Uniqlo Wake Up, a social alarm app from Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo that incorporates the current weather, time and day of the week into its wake-up music.
We’ve already covered Uniqlo once before for its clothes-recycling efforts, but the spotting this time focuses on its Wake Up app, which it offers as a free download for both Android and iOS devices. Whichever the platform, the app wakes users up with music that’s automatically created based on the weather, with a voice to announce the time, weather and day of the week in either English or Mandarin Chinese. The app’s background also changes with the day of the week. Last but not least, users can share via social media a record of their awakening, including the time, weather and temperature at the moment they turned the alarm off; an aggregation of such data from users around the world is even visible in a part of the app. The video below demonstrates the app in action:
What’s a good way to get consumers’ attention from the moment they open their eyes? A custom wake-up app offered as a brand butler could be a good option. Brands around the globe: what are you waiting for?
