Fully adjustable car rig for photoreal CG adverts
Mobility & Transport
The Blackbird is a fully adjustable car rig that could transform the way automotive advertising is made.
Car advertisements often have to be reshot as revisions are made to the final designs, or put on hold because the vehicle is not available yet. Solving this problem is The Blackbird, an adjustable car rig that creates photoreal computer generated cars.
Made by The Mill, The Blackbird is a fully adjustable car rig that could transform the way automotive advertising is made. The rig, which can be adjusted to the exact length and width of most cars, can be shot in any location at any time, so that the producers don’t have to rely on the actual vehicle. The Blackbird is powered by an electric motor that can be programmed to imitate the movements and driving characteristics of the vehicle that is being advertised. Adjustables include acceleration curves, gear shifts and suspension height. Once the vehicle has been customized, it can be shot with an array of cameras capturing its movements as well as point of view shots, which can then be used in combination with CG renderings of backdrops and images of the actual car to make the video.
Could The Blackbird be used in any other industries?
