Finnish startup enables mass-scale wireless IoT connectivity

Wirepas aims for better use of IoT with tech that works with any radio hardware and frequency

Spotted: Finnish startup Wirepas has created a wireless platform that promises “cost-efficient IoT connectivity” that is scalable to any amount of devices. It aims to make it it easier for companies to enable the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Wirepas Mesh software can be used “in any device, with any radio chip and on any radio band”, the company says. Its efficient use of radio signals means that “thousands of devices in one room without interference”. It also means that distance between devices is not an issue. Every device is an autonomous part of the network and can operate as a router.

The system also means it is easy to scale up and customise based on need, according to Wirepas. Customers power up the device and can connect automatically and operate as part of the network.

Wirepas is already connecting smart meters, lights and other assets. It is actively working in the supply chain and logistics field. Prologis, Maersk and Fujitsu are current clients. The startup recently raised €14.4 million to expand its network and develop new products.
