Secluded Bed and Breakfast caters to new needs during the pandemic

A one-roomed Bed and Breakfast in Sweden is an example of how some in the travel and tourism sector are pivoting during COVID

Spotted: In the southern Swedish region of Skåne, designers Magnus Wiitbjer and Micha van Dinther have been exploring what travellers in the COVID era might require from the hospitality industry. The founders of the design and content agency TypeO have launched the TypeO loft, a secluded one-roomed Bed and breakfast in a separate part of a traditional 1842 stone farmstead, where they themselves live and work. As more and more people go back into isolation and lockdowns, the space is designed to offer maximum privacy and for guests to be able to disconnect from the stress of the daily grind.

Inside, guests have access to a lounge area, a cosy bedroom nook with an ensuite bathroom and a custom-built Nordiska Kök kitchen, where a self-service breakfast awaits in the morning and ready-made meal kits with locally sourced food can be pre-ordered. The 50 square metre space also boasts triangular floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the landscape. With relaxation being the top priority, the TypeO loft includes a king-size Dux bed with organic bed linen by Read The Label, botanical essences by Aoiro, a sound system by Transparent Sound and a Selection of magazines and books to help guests engage with themselves and their surroundings.

Doubling as a retail concept, all furniture pieces and interior items are available for purchase on-site if guests find that they want to bring something home with them.

The minimum stay at TypeO Loft is two nights, with the nightly rates standing at €140 during off-seasons, and €185 in the peak season between June and August.
