Security-check escalator to reduce waiting at airports

The Aerochk would provide AI-powered security checks as passengers rode the escalator to their departure gate

Spotted: In collaboration with Canada-based Imaginactive, designers Ashish Thulkar and Charles Bombardier have proposed an escalator that uses artificial intelligence and face scanning to replace traditional airport security procedures. The escalator, called Aerochk, has the potential to cut down on missed flights and human error, according to the designers.

Aerochk operates like a traditional escalator. The difference is that passengers’ documents, baggage and identity would be scanned, weighed and verified while they ride it. AI-powered technology would perform face scans and security sweeps along the way. If any anomalies were detected – such as a fake identity or dangerous substance – airport security agents would be notified. The proposal also includes alternatives for people in wheelchairs or pregnant women
