Glow-in-the-dark bike offers greater night-time safety

Mobility & Transport

Aiming to make riders more conspicuous on the road, the Kilo Glow model from Pure Fix Cycles features a glow-in-the-dark frame.

We’ve already seen efforts to make cycling in the dark a safer activity with Revolights LED system for illuminating the wheels of bikes. Aiming to make riders even more conspicuous on the road, the Kilo Glow model from Pure Fix Cycles features a glow-in-the-dark frame. The bike frame and wheels are coated in a highly reflective, glow-in-the-dark paint that is activated when exposed to the sun – an hour in daylight will provide more than an hour of night-time usage, according to the manufacturers. Customer can choose to have a glow-in-the-dark frame, wheels or both, and there are also options to include a fluorescent handlebar grip set. The bike is fixed-gear and is as customizable as the other models available from Pure Fix Cycles, available in five sizes from 47cm to 61cm, at a base price of USD 399. This seemingly simple, but effective, safety addition is also being offered by Superb Bicycle, whose USD 1600 model features luminous frames, rims, and handlebar as standard. Currently available in the US, could you replicate this idea in your country?
