In France, high-speed train service for €10

Mobility & Transport

Ouigo is a "no-frills" rail service, that offers low cost fares on high-speed trains.

French railway SNCF has graced our virtual pages on a couple of occasions before, both for its in-station daycare centers and for the cross-city video link it set up last year. Now there’s occasion to feature it again, thanks to its recent launch of the low-cost Ouigo train service. Scheduled to launch early next month, SNCF’s new Ouigo trains will offer a high-speed, low-fare service between the Paris region and southeastern France for EUR 10 and upwards. Children under 12 traveling with an adult, meanwhile, will pay a flat EUR 5 fare. Among the destinations benefiting from Ouigo service will be Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Lyon St-Exupéry, Marne-la-Vallée, Marseille, Montpellier, Nîmes and Valence. There will be no first-class service nor refreshments available, and luggage space will be limited. We’ve seen “no frills” offerings come to numerous other categories already – including several hotels – but this is the first time we’ve seen it applied to travel by rail. Where else could the concept carve out a new niche? Spotted by: www.airlinetrends.com
