Democratic candidate Alicia Reece is aiming to provide voters with important tools and information to increase turnout in the upcoming election

Spotted: The presidential election in the US is fast approaching and Alicia Reece, a Democrat running for Hamilton County Commissioner in Ohio, has introduced innovative ways to provide voters with vital tools. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit during the primary elections, Reece knew that she had to come up with ways to educate voters and emphasise that voting is essential. Some of the measures she has taken include voting drives, vote-a-thons and BYOB (bring your own ballot) drive-thru happy hours.

The most inventive model that Reece recently launched is a series of pop-up voter hubs that are safe and follow social distancing guidelines, and which can be replicated nationally.

The incentive behind the hubs was to educate, motivate and activate voters in a safe way. They are dispersed throughout high voter traffic areas and also include drive-thru options. At the hubs, voters can check their status, request an absentee ballot, pick up informational and promotional materials and get excited about voting, providing them with the tools they need to make sure their vote is counted in the midst of the chaos of the global pandemic. Furthermore, campaign workers and volunteers will also take the opportunity to walk door-to-door to introduce themselves to community members and pass out educational supplies.

Reece hosted the first of a series of pop-up voter hubs in Cincinnati on August 15.
