An urban planning platform helps decarbonise cities

Mobility & Transport

Transport analysis tracks emissions to help planners construct healthier spaces

Spotted: E-commerce growth has been swift and continues apace. The World Economic Forum (WEF) predicts that by 2030, there will be 36 per cent more delivery vehicles in inner-city areas due to increased delivery demand. As well as more packages, increased deliveries bring more pollution, oftentimes to areas with already unhealthy levels of particulates in the air.

French company Urban Radar is creating order from chaos by maximising transport efficiencies through its logistics and freight mobility platforms. Urban Logistics and Fret Impact are online transport tracking systems that use data visualisation to help urban planners improve the health of city communities.

Already in use in cities across Europe, Urban Logistics makes it easy to track traffic, analyse congestion challenges, plan new routes, and map loading zones. By providing insight into transport patterns across the city, urban planners can more quickly test out potential solutions and tweak as needed. Urban Radar’s platforms take advantage of a mix of public and private data sources to provide detailed information streams that are regularly updated and include each user’s own datasets as well.

Reducing transport pollution is a challenge that requires multi-faceted approaches, and Springwise is spotting innovations ranging from middle mile drone deliveries to urban farm zero-emission produce delivery.
