Nail taxi
Property & Construction
Regular readers of Springwise will know that we’re a big fan of mobile concepts (onsite haircuts and dentistry, mobile cosmetics retailing, a gym on wheels, and espresso to go are just a few examples). They’re easy for entrepreneurs to set up, and so very convenient for consumers.
Quick spotting from the world of beauty: Nail Taxi, based in the greater Washington D.C. area, provides nail care at customers’ homes, offices, hotel suites, hospital rooms. They’ll send a professional nail technician wherever a manicure or pedicure is needed. The mobile nail boutique is also a popular choice for bridal showers, baby showers, store events and bachelorette parties.
Nail Taxi was conceived in 2003 when its founder, Cinnamon Bowser, tried to find an outcall nail technician to service her 9 months pregnant girlfriend who wanted a pedicure before she delivered her new baby. The best ideas are born of necessity, and when Ms Bowser realized there were many people who could benefit from a nail salon coming to them, she smelled (no pun intended) a great new business opportunity. Less than a year after Nail Taxi started business (May 2005), expansion plans include licensing the Nail Taxi brand to ten other US cities by May 2007. Time to dip your toes into the world of mobile convenience concepts?
