We’ve seen several efforts over the years aimed at helping parents connect — or reconnect — with the working world, including numerous child-friendly work spaces. Similar in many ways to Australian CareerMums, which we covered back in 2008, UK-based Beyond the School Run is a brand-new portal for parents seeking new career or volunteer opportunities during school hours. Launched earlier this month, Beyond the School Run has begun by partnering with charities including Kids Company and ParentGym to connect parents with school-hours opportunities in the nonprofit sector. Eventually, however, it aims to expand beyond the charitable world to include opportunities in for-profit organizations as well. The company explains: “The idea is to help parents find the inspiration to get back into the workplace, develop a career for the first time or simply get involved with their own community or beyond.” Also coming to the free site are blogs and other content designed to inspire parents in their search. With all the remote-work possibilities enabled by today’s technologies, there’s no longer any reason for parents’ skills to go to waste. One to replicate in family-friendly areas near you?
