Home delivery services by young South African entrepreneurs

BuddiBox supports young South Africans in setting up a local delivery service with emphasis on the necessity of good community relationships.

With youth unemployment particularly high in South Africa, BuddiBox encourages individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply to be a buddi. Each buddi is given training and business support in setting up his or her own local service. BuddiBox has partnered with a variety of retailers, businesses and other organizations to allow buddis to provide a distinct community service.

With heavily populated townships creating an expanse of suburban neighborhoods, the buddis are encouraged to use their local knowledge and contacts to develop their service provision specific to their designated area. Local delivery centers provide storage space for goods and hubs for buddis to operate from. Along with a delivery service, buddis are able to provide businesses with marketing support for a targeted audience.

With on-demand amenities continuing to grow in popularity with consumers, delivery services are providing a number of self-employment opportunities for entrepreneurs. Another South African business is providing a package of courier services for online shoppers, and on university campuses in the United States, sample size products are being made available within minutes. What other products and services would work well with local entrepreneurship?
