A new, free dating site — Dreamcliq — enables users to express their personality and interests to potential partners through imagery alone.
We see no shortage of dating apps submitted through our Springspotters network here at Springwise, but Dreamcliq still managed to stand out from the crowd. How exactly? By completely doing away with “About Me” bios and cheesy one liners. Rather, the dating network is fuelled entirely by images.
Users signing up to the website (a mobile app is reportedly in the works), do still need to enter some basic details such as their name and location. However, with that completed, they don’t need to enter another word. Rather, they are encouraged to upload images to convey their interest and personality — from bands they like, favourite films and books, to dream holiday destinations. Daters can add images to their profile using the “CLIQ it” bookmarklet as they browse the web, or they can browse the site’s own “Surf” section to find appropriate photos.
The unique approach has a number of effects on the dating experience compared to other sites. Firstly, and most obviously, browsing profiles is much more aesthetically pleasing, but more practically, it also has the potential to feel more human and tell you more about the potential date. Rather than being told that someone likes “books”, users can see at a glance which books they like. The result is similar to a Pintrest for dating.
The service is free to sign up for, but charges users USD 2.50 to send a message to another member. Not only does this obviously generate revenue, it also eliminates spam and adds significance to any messages sent over the network, making recipients more likely to respond. And unless the dater is particularly active on the network, it should still work out cheaper than many services charging for monthly membership.
Are there any other twist which could breathe new life into the online dating experience?
