On-demand app gives stranded drivers a boost

Boostmi is an on-demand app for motorists to connect with other drivers and mechanics, in the case they need to jump start their vehicle.

The winter months often lead to flat batteries, particularly in cities where cold weather and snow are regular occurrences. According to Montreal-based developers Boostmi, around 100,000 Canadians have found themselves stuck and in need of a boost, often waiting for hours and paying more than CAD 100 for the service.

Boostmi are looking to find a modern, social solution to the issue of boosting vehicles for stranded drivers. The app connects vetted boosters with drivers in need of a jump start, and aims to do so within 15 minutes.

Drivers pay CAD 25 for a boost. The booster provides the jump cables and all necessary equipment, and like most P2P platforms, a rating system will gradually elevate the quality of the service. The app was launched in January and is currently available on Google Play and the App Store. The developers believe the service could provide a great opportunity for drivers across Canada looking to make some extra cash during the winter months.

We’ve already seen an Edinburgh-based startup making it easier to insure cars on-demand using an app. How else could P2P apps help motorists quickly sort out problems with their vehicles?
