Refugees receive an income by talking to students of Arabic

NaTakallam's platform connects students of Arabic with Syrian refugees, who receive an income for having an online conversation.

The Syrian refugee crisis has produced some innovative initiatives, such as a startup incubator in Finland and a real-time translating social app in Sweden. Now NaTakallam is providing refugees with a source of income by chatting with a stranger.

Through NaTakallam (which means ‘we speak’), students of Arabic can have internet-based conversations with native speakers, and pick up some of the more colloquial subtleties of the language. The Syrian speakers will receive payment for the service they provide. Currently setting up in Lebanon with support from Sawa, a non-profit organization, NaTakallam aims to expand to all countries along the refugee migration routes.
