Social network for army vets wants to help curb growing suicides

POS REP is a social network for military personnel to find and support each other when they leave service.

Recent statistics from the Pentagon show that the leading cause of death among members of the US military in 2012 and 2013 was not in fact war, but suicide. We recently wrote about Together Strong, the app that's helping former soldiers learn how to better emotionally engage in civilian society. Now POS REP is a social network for military personnel to find and support each other when they leave service.

The app uses terminology familiar to soldiers to help them make sense of civilian life. The Radar section of the app helps users find other vets nearby and they can 'pop a flare' to let others know their location. The SitRep section is a forum where users can start discussion topics get involved in the community. Soldiers can keep in touch with their former squad mates through the app via chat, organizing their conversations by topic or group. Finally, users can earn badges that reflect their experience and support for the military community after they've left the army.
