OTRO hopes its digital content studio will provide access to greater audiences and increase revenue through advertisements
Spotted: OTRO is a sports app that allows audiences to access video content and engage with world-famous football players for a little over €4.00 a month. Additional access involves live Q&As and the opportunity to meet players in person.
The company, which only launched in December, is already disrupting its business model. Until now, OTRO has been subscription-based. However, after realising the enormous success of its feed on social media, the company is replacing its paywall with a digital content studio.
OTRO will still continue producing short videos and documentaries for the app, but these will also be available on social-media platforms. App users who have subscribed annually to OTRO will be reimbursed. A YouTube channel will also be set up and there will be interactive competitions to win prizes. This new business model will allow the firm to have access to branded partnerships and increase revenue from advertisement across multiple platforms.
The platform was founded by 17 global football players such as Lionel Messi, David Beckham and Neymar. All the founders have huge social media followings, enabling them to boost the popularity of the site by sharing a content exclusively through OTRO.
