A one-stop-shop for eco-friendly hospitality supplies

A Kenyan wholesaler makes it easy for hotels and lodges to find sustainable products

Spotted: According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Africa’s tourism sector is expected to grow 6.5 per cent a year over the next decade, potentially bringing in $350 billion more to the region’s economy. However, if this growth isn’t managed with the environment in mind, it could compromise the long-term sustainability and emissions reductions goals of the region. One company hoping to make travel and hospitality greener is Kijani Supplies.

The Kenya-based startup acts as a one-stop-shop for hospitality businesses so they can find and buy all their eco-friendly supplies. This massively simplifies the procurement process, meaning hospitality buyers can buy everything in one place: from non-toxic cleaning products and refillable body washes to fresh local produce, plastic-free packaging, and kitchen appliances.

Kijani Supplies offers its services with flexible payment terms, making it accessible to smaller sites that may be on a tighter budget, as well as providing last-mile delivery to its customers. The company boasts over 50 suppliers, and has already made over 800 deliveries to some 40 lodges.

Springwise has spotted other innovations looking to make the hospitality sector more efficient and sustainable, including a system that cuts food waste in restaurant kitchens and a zero-emissions cruise ship.
