An app for making sustainable choices when travelling

The Tookki app allows users in France to find environmentally-friendly restaurants, hotels, transport and more
Spotted: It can be difficult to maintain a focus on sustainability when travelling, especially in an unfamiliar place. The French startup Tookki has a solution – a free mobile app that allows users to find environmentally-friendly restaurants, hotels, transport and more.
Tookki vets establishments and activities for their commitment to sustainability before listing them on its site. In addition, users can share places and experiences on the platform by acting as “ambassadors”. Once suggestions are validated by Tookki, the ambassador earns points, which unlocks discounts and other perks in Tookki partner brands’ e-shops.
The Tookki app allows users to search the nearby area for sustainable establishments and includes a map. Details such as opening times and phone numbers are also included. In addition to the app, Tookki also offers ‘green’ experiences, such as zero waste workshops and 100 per cent organic meals. These are intended for companies to use for away days and perks.
The idea behind Tookki is to raise awareness of environmental issues and to make it easier to take action and live sustainability. Co-founder Fabien Vermot explained to quotidiendutourisme.com that: “Finding activities and places that respect the environment is a real headache, as there are websites, ethical charters, labels and recommendations.” Tookki aims to ease this headache, “with an involved community and selected and verified content.”
Tookki joins a host of other apps trying to help people live more sustainably. These include innovative ideas such as another French app that identifies products that reflect sustainable values and an app that alerts shoppers to unhealthy products in real-time.
