An AI-powered platform can scan medical records for signs of different conditions, allowing doctors to spend more time with patients
Spotted: According to a 2021 report from Allied Market Research, the global market for big data analytics in health care is projected to reach $67.82 billion (around €66.5 billion) by 2025. California-based Regard (formerly HealthTensor) is poised to take a share of that with its artificial intelligence (AI) powered clinical support tool that can diagnose common illnesses and improve clinician workflows – leaving doctors with more time to spend with patients.
The tool is designed to integrate with electronic health records (EHRs), containing patient’s medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, immunisation dates, allergies, radiology images, and laboratory and test results. The platform mines a patient’s EHR for signs of conditions that physicians might overlook. The app then flags those conditions for the doctors to investigate further. The platform is designed to aid doctor’s by handling a good deal of the administrative work involved in diagnosis, leaving doctors with more time to spend talking with and treating patients.
The Regard platform searches for any markers in the medical record that might indicate a disease or chronic condition. For example, it might highlight high sodium levels that the doctor missed. The platform can currently scan for markers of around 50 conditions. However, the company emphasises that it is not intended to replace doctors. Instead, it is designed to do the ‘grunt work’ while leaving it up to clinicians to check into and verify the flagged conditions.
