An app provides ‘digital viagra’ therapy

The new app uses medically proven methods to treat erectile dysfunction with a digital and holistic approach

Spotted: Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a number of factors, including psychological issues, heart problems, hormonal disorders, side effects from medication, or nerve damage from surgery. In Germany alone, around 6 to 8 million men are estimated to suffer from erectile dysfunction at any one time.

While the prescription drug viagra has been successfully used to treat erectile dysfunction since 1998, it does not work in all cases. Now, there is a non-medicinal option. Kranus Health, which was founded in 2020, is hoping to bring a new option for treating erectile dysfunction with its prescription app Kranus Edera. The platform offers a digital and holistic approach to treatment based on a 12-week programme.

The therapy regime includes pelvic floor training, physical therapy exercises, cardiovascular endurance training, mindfulness, body awareness exercises, and sexual therapy exercises. Patients also receive daily information on the underlying causes and principles of erectile dysfunction, to help them improve their understanding of the role of factors such as nutrition and stress.

Kranus Health is also working to develop digital therapies for other conditions that people are often reluctant to discuss openly, such as incontinence, in order to remove the stigma attached to them.

Springwise has seen a number of apps aimed at both tracking and treating health conditions. These have included a national wellbeing app that provides workers in the UK hospitality sector with rapid access to mental health support, and a brain-training app that uses VR to test cognitive skills.
