App helps travelers receive compensation for delayed flights

AirHelp makes getting a refund for delayed or cancelled flights easier for holidaymakers.

When transport companies mess up their customers’ journeys, it’s usually common courtesy to offer them something to apologize, but not many know that they’re often legally obligated to offer a refund if requested. London’s Tube Refund has been winning compensation back from underground operators TfL for a while now, a new app called AirHelp now makes getting a refund for delayed or cancelled flights easier for holidaymakers.

Users downloading the free app from the App Store or Google Play simply enter in the details of any flight they purchased in the last three years that was delayed, cancelled, or rearranged. AirHelp then does all of the administration work involved in getting a payment from airlines. If they refuse to co-operate, AirHelp even initiates legal proceedings. When the airline pays, the money is transferred direct to users’ bank accounts, minus around a 25 percent fee.

According to AirHelp, the average compensation it wins is USD 1100 per flight. Are there other apps that could simplify administration processes such as this?
