Coworking venue provides 24hr office space in central Paris for €1

Paris based, La Permanence, provides desk space from EUR 1 an hour for students and entrepreneurs alike.

Since 2011 the number of coworking spaces has risen from 530 to roughly 2,500 worldwide, with a collective membership of 1,180,000. We’ve witnessed this rise, covering some innovative business ideas that have grown up around the coworking culture. This Berlin based venue offers free desk space in exchange for creative content, and this consultancy firm offers logistical and strategic support to landlords interested in setting up their own space. Now, Parisian startup La Permanence offers a competitively priced office space for students and entrepreneurs alike.

Comprising of 210 m2 on Rue du Fer-à-Moulin, in the 5th Arrondissement, La Permanence is described by its founder, 27 year old Maness Clam, as “an enormous greenhouse divided into three spaces, two spaces with chairs and large tables, and one which is a little more cozy with sofas and chairs.” The coworking space is open to all, costs just EUR 1 per hour and is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Prices increase to EUR 1.50 during ‘full hours’ – 2 – 6pm – but the organisation offers a flat rate of EUR 80 per month for unlimited access to the space. The founders set up the venue for students who are tired of queuing for the library, and freelancers and entrepreneurs looking for a serene working environment that won’t ruin them financially. They also run a support fund for scholarship holders, subsidising 50% of the unlimited subscription fee.

Complete with high speed internet, printing facilities, a meeting room and relaxation area where users can make their own food, the space is certainly desirable at such cheap prices. As more and more coworking spaces pop up, will this competitive pricing be adopted elsewhere?
