CosScan is a skincare app that scans and processes ingredients list to help users learn which cosmetic products are compatible with their skin.
Choosing the right cosmetics products can be an overwhelming task due to the sheer volume of options available. Offering a solution is CosScan — an intelligent personal skincare advisor which takes the form of a smartphone app.
CosScan is a skincare scanner which enables customers find out which cosmetic products are most compatible with their skin type, simply by scanning the product’s ingredients list. To begin, users create a profile on the app, answering short questions about their skin. CosScan then analyzes the answers to define their skin type. The users can then scan the ingredients on any cosmetic product, and the app will use an object character recognition module to convert the image into text. It then processes these ingredients, referring to its 17,000 strong ingredients list, and presents its findings via a detailed report in 3-7 seconds, which can be saved for future reference.
CosScan is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Could a similar barcode scanner be used for food products too?
