Feedie is teaming up with restaurants to help turn customers' shared food photos into funds for a charity fighting hunger in South Africa.
We’ve already seen Spain’s FoodShareFilter offer a way to leverage Instagram hashtags to promote social causes through the image sharing app. Now Feedie is hoping to use its own platform to turn shared food photos into funds for a charity fighting hunger in South Africa.
Developed for The Lunchbox Fund, Feedie enables users to first search for a restaurant in New York City. After arriving and ordering a meal, visitors are invited to take a photo of their meal with the app, which can then be enhanced with filters and shared to other users. The restaurants featured on Feedie have agreed to donate to The Lunchbox Fund every time a guest at their venue uses the app to capture a snap of their meal. Those funds are then used to help the charity continue its work in South Africa, where it provides daily meals to disadvantaged schoolchildren. The current roster of restaurants partaking in the scheme is limited to New York, but includes some esteemed eateries such as La Esquina, The Lamb’s Club and The Spotted Pig. The video below offers more information about the project:
Feedie provides foodies with a platform to share their favorite dishes, and helps restaurants improve their CSR credentials by donating to charity. Are there other ways to leverage social sharing for good causes?
